Category
The primary grouping the State Hermitage Web site uses to classify artwork in the Digital Collection, to assist you in searching. A Category is a broad group of artwork created in similar ways and that possess similar characteristics.

RGB
A tool used in the QBIC searches. The RGB (red, green, blue) scale is a standard classification system. It allows you to determine how much of the colours red, green, and blue you want to use to create a custom colour. You may specify a value between 1 and 256 for each colour.

Type
A sub-grouping the State Hermitage Web site uses to classify artwork in the Digital Collection, to assist you in searching. Type performs a similar function to Category, but is a narrower grouping containing artwork that was created in like ways and often used to perform like functions.
