The symposium is devoted to the topical theme of relations between contemporary artists and the art market, and the role of the art museum in this process. The Hermitage Museum is planning to build a major collection of contemporary art for display in the newly renovated galleries of the General Staff Building in a few years' time, thus giving the symposium's theme a special significance for the museum itself. One of the most exciting new developments in the Western market, the success of young artists from Eastern Europe, will be highlighted and compared with parallel developments in Russia.

Registration to participate

Since the Symposium has elicited a great deal of interest among potential attendees and the number of seats in the Hermitage Theatre is limited, we ask that you register in advance by informing us of your full name and organizational affiliation (desirable) to receive an invitation to the two working days of the Symposium - 14 and 15 September 2006.
