Classical Rome: Odes of Horace and Augustan classicism
January 27, 2012
Winter Palace of Peter I
Begins at 18.30

The State Hermitage presents its new program Language of an era. Images and words. This program attempts to originally and stylistically compare poetry and figurative art, comparisons are rather by association than direct. Just like literature, every kind of figurative art has its own specific language in which it "speaks" to people.
Art historians (Hermitage employees) will open the specifics of the "language" of works of figurative art of a specific era. Old essays written at a similar time in the original or in Russian translation will be read at the meetings, as well as commentaries from specialists on the features of their language style.
State Hermitage employee Liudmila Davydova will talk about the great masterpieces by Horace.

Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office in the Winter Palace of Peter I
on the day of the event
Tickets cost 350 roubles
