As the city was celebrating its 300th in May, a beautiful new restaurant opened in the easterly wing of the General Staff building, named Hermitage Restaurant. Ten rooms, each designed in its own style, cover 1,500 sq.m. They are interconnected by a gallery intended for exhibitions of contemporary art. The restaurant has two entrances, from Palace Square and Bolshaya Morskaya Street (under the General Staff Arch). The “Carriage Passage” will take you to the central area with its Peacock Room and the Caviar Bar. The Music Salon, along with the Peacock Room, will host performances of romances, traditional jazz and folklore; the Hermitage Music Academy will every week present its program here. The Big and Small Dynasty Dining Rooms will be convenient for groups of tourists and banquets. The Orb Room is intended for business meetings. Close to it are the romantic Cameo and the cosy Divan Rooms. Suite of rooms and vaulted ceilings dating from the time of Carlo Rossi (1820s) have been preserved. Paintings, sculptures, chandeliers and other elements associated with the Hermitage rooms are used in interior decoration. For example, the Aperitif Room and bar are decorated with panels inspired by the famed still lifes by Snyders on display at the Hermitage Museum. The restaurant’s Russian and European food, prepared according to time-honored
recipes but served in a modern style, will satisfy the most demanding
gourmet taste. Two cloakrooms and free parking in Bolshaya Morskaya Street will be at the restaurant guests’ disposal. Address: 8 Palace Square |
