How to order

The State Hermitage Museum lends transparencies and gives permission for using images to organisations only on written requests.

To order a transparency or images, please send your requests addressed to
the Hermitage Director Mikhail Piotrovsky at the following
address: 34 Dvortsovaya Emb., St Petersburg 190 000, Russia
fax: 7 (812) 571 90 09.
The letter should be typed on a headed paper of the organisation and contain the purpose of use. After consideration of your inquiry our staff will contact you.

The State Hermitage Photographic Laboratory

The photographic laboratory takes pictures of art works, records on film events taking place in the Hermitage and also carries out photography for technical purposes. One of its main tasks is to produce for publishing houses images of items in the Hermitage collection on slides suitable for use in the printing process.

The State Hermitage Photographic Laboratory dates back to the late 19th century. Today it employs 13 professional photographers with many years experience of working in the museum. The laboratory carries out a variety of different functions - taking pictures of art works, recording on film events taking place in the Hermitage and carrying out photography for technical purposes. The laboratory has state-of-the-art equipment for taking photographs and processing photographic material independently. One of its main tasks is to produce for publishing houses images of items in the Hermitage collection on slides suitable for use in the printing process.
