The State Hermitage Museum, with a collection of an encyclopaedic scale presents the renewed Culture and Art of Central Asia exhibition. About a thousand items, placed in the halls of the third floor of the Winter Palace, will bring the viewer into the world of the various peoples, speaking different languages, who lived in the broad spaces of the Central Asian from the ancient past to the Middle Ages.



 

The film will familiarise you with the best examples of lithographic portraits of the 19th century from the State Hermitage Museum's collections. It talks about the development of lithographic portraits in Russia from the start of the 19th century to the end of the 1890s, as well as about the masters who dedicated their creative talent to this type of print art.
The Russian Lithographic Portrait of the 19th Century exhibition is open from 22 September 2012 to 13 January 2013.



 

A video dedicated to the biography of Nikolai Petrovich Likhachyov (1862-1936), a world-famous scientist and major collector. This film is timed to coincide with the "Only Writings Sound" exhibit, where 460 artifacts from the scientist's collection, representing writing from the turn of the 4th and 3rd centuries B.C.E. to the early 20th century.
The exhibit will be open at the Hermitage from April 21st to July 22nd 2012.



 

The film is devoted to the memory of Vladimir Lukonin (1932-1984), a leading Russian Orientalist and expert on the culture and art of Iran in ancient times and the middle-ages. Vladimir Lukonin was Head of the Hermitage Oriental Department for about twenty years and was one of the most interesting characters in the history of the Hermitage in the 20th century. Narrated by the director of the State Hermitage, Mikhail Piotrovsky.
The film was produced by the TV company Kultura.



  The film is about the Ancient Herculaneum exhibition, the first exhibition in the restored rooms of the General Staff building. It is narrated by Anna Trofimova, Head of the Antiquities Department.
The exhibition is open until the 12 February 2012.


  The film talks about written materials and the culture of books in 10-17th century Russia from the Novgorod State Museum-Reservation collection.
The exhibition is open in the State Hermitage until 19 February 2012.


  The film is about the great Russian scientist, Mikhail Lomonosov, whose genius was revealed during the reign of Elizabeth Petrovna. The film presents some of the most important events from the time of Elizabeth and provides an introduction to the development of art in Russia in the second quarter of the 18th century.
The exhibition is open until the 11 March 2012.


  In April 2010 the sculpture the Fugitive Slave by Vladimir Beklemishev was discovered during repair work in the Winter Palace. This film tells the story of the discovery and the restoration of the statue.


  This film shows the history of lacquer art in Russia, a unique aspect of national culture.

The exhibition was open from 13 May to 4 September 2011.



  After restoration of the parquet floor in the Knight's Hall the horsemen in armour returned on 27 December 2010. An everyday museum event turned into a New Years Eve celebration.


  The film shows the process of restoring the Eastern Wing of the General Staff Building.


  The film tells about the discovery of silver treasure, about the work of the restorers and shows the development of silver work in Russia in the 19-20th centuries as well as the tastes of wealthy Petersburg families.


  This video talks about the art of ancient glass workers, the technologies for producing glass in the rich Hermitage ancient glass collection.


  Anatoly Ivanov, senior researcher of the Oriental Department talks about the history, culture and art of the Dagestan mountain village of Kubachi.


  The video is devoted to two masterpieces from the Hermitage collection, the decorative panels Dance and Music by Henri Matisse.


  The video was made to coincide with the opening of the exhibition Art and Culture in the ancient towns of the Northern Black Sea Coast.


  The video is devoted to an exhibition of porcelain based on the famous Russian Seasons show in Paris.


  This 3D film made by the architecture workshop Studio 44 provides the opportunity to take a virtual walk through the rooms of the future museum.
