Tripod bowl with figures
Olvia. 6th century B.C.
Alabaster
Before and after restoration
In the photograph:
1. the tripod bowl before restoration with heavily soiled surface and
traces of destruction of the stone;
2,3. disassembly of the improperly glued together fragments of the bowl
and removal of crude additions from previous restorations, cleansing
of the surface of the alabaster;
4. the tripod bowl following restoration: the damaged stone has been
strengthened by soaking, the lost parts have been reproduced using imitation
alabaster made from synthetic paste and the bowl was reassembled.
