The State Hermitage and Domus Producers' Center
present
the
International Festival Dedication to Maestro
St Petersburg
1 - 7 March 2007

The State Hermitage and the Domus Producers' Center present the International Festival Dedication to Maestro, which will take place from 1through 7 March 2007 in the halls of the State Hermitage and the Hermitage Theatre. The Chairman of the Artistic Council and of the Organizing Committee of the festival is Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky.

The Promsvyazvank Commercial Bank is General Sponsor of the festival.

The State Hermitage and its partners are restoring the musical traditions of Petersburg and direct your attention to 7 exclusive concerts in the Hermitage Theatre and in halls of the State Hermitage at which stars of classical music will perform. The Dedication to Maestro Festival offers concerts coinciding with anniversary dates of famous composers and performers of classical music. In 2007 the festival includes works by Rossini (1792-1868) to mark the 215th anniversary of his birth, Haydn (1732-1809) - on the 275th anniversary of his birth, Schubert (1797-1828) - the 210th anniversary of his birth, Beethoven (1770-1827) - on the 180th anniversary of his death. One of the festival concerts is dedicated to People's Artist of the USSR, winner of State Prizes and of many titles and awards, the conductor Saulius Sondeckis, who in 2006 celebrated the fiftieth year of his artistic career.

The word maestro is multifaceted, therefore the maestro of the festival concerts can be composers, as well as long serving and young performers. The participants in the concerts are: Maestro Saulius Sondeckis, conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre Mikhail Sinkevich; soloist of the Royal Opera Covent Garden Liora Grodnikaite, mezzo soprano (first appearance in St Petersburg), soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre and winners of international competitions Yelena Gorshunova (soprano), Dmitry Voropaev (tenor), Vyacheslav Sulimsky (baritone). World renowned instrumentalists will also perform for festival-goers: the violinist, student of Yehudi Menuhin, Lutz Leskovitz (Salzburg, Austria), pianist Polina Osetinskaya, the Moscow Trio chamber ensemble - People's Artists of Russia Alexander Bonduriansky (piano), Vladimir Ivanov (violin) and Mikhail Utkin (cello). For the first time in St Petersburg, Saulius Sondecki will appear with his son in the concert Classics and Jazz - soloist of the NDR Symphony Orchestra, cellist Vitautas Sondeckis, along with such famous jazz musicians as Lars Danielsson (double bass) and Butge Vesseltoft (piano).

Following in the traditions of cultural benefactors, the St Petersburg branch of Promsvyazbank has provided support for the festival. The bank had previously established partnership relations with the State Hermitage. In the words of Manager of the Petersburg branch Tatyana Krylova, "our neighborly relations creates obligations. Being in the heart of our city, we cannot remain on the sidelines of the rebirth of cultural and historical traditions of St Petersburg, away from the rebirth of spiritual values. In the five years since the founding of the Promsvyazbank branch in St Petersburg, we have become successful in our business. The time has come to make our contribution to the culture of St Petersburg. Charity and sponsorship in Russia has deep roots and a long history which was interrupted. Now the traditions of sponsorship are being restored by those companies who value development through the development of society as a whole."
