This is a reference book written by Dr. Yevgeniya Semenovna Shchukina, Director of the Hermitage Numismatics Department which owns Russia's largest and one of the world's richest collections of medals. The book describes Russian medallists and sculptors of 1700-1917 and their works executed over more than two centuries of the history of Russian medals. It will be of imminent use for identifying medal authors.
The book may be used by scholars, museum personnel and collectors of Russian coins and medals. It includes 568 monograms and inscriptions which medals may bear. Concise biographies and lists of medallists' works are given.
