Pair tapestries with portraits of the Russian Emperor Alexander I and his wife Elisaveta Alekseevna were sent to Russia in 1816 from Gobelin Manufacture by order of Louis XVIII.

The history of these tapestries is quite curious. Originally Gobelin manufacturers intended to make portraits of Napoleon and Maria-Louisa, but in 1815 after his dethronement it was decided to execute portraits of the Russian emperor and his wife and set them in the existing frame.
