Vase: Water-Lily Leaves

1904

Designed by Piotr Krasnovsky. Worked by V. Filimonov

Imperial Porcelain Factory and Glassworks

Crystal glass, hand-blown, carved, polished and engraved

In 1904 two Water-Lily Leaves vases were made, one of which came into the factory museum that same year. The glittering surface of the vase, produced by the angled mitre cut, contrasts with the stylized depiction of the leaves created in the matte engraving technique. The vase broadens out towards the top, its shape reminiscent of a water-lily flower stretching out of the water towards the light. This design was the work of the factory’s leading artist, Piotr Krasnovsky (1871-?), to whose designs a great many pieces were produced in clear crystal glass in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
