1850s-1860s Popov factory Porcelain, with relief decoration, polychrome overglaze painting and gilding Tea and coffee services occupied an important place in the Popov factory’s output in the mid-19th century. The variously-shaped items repeated fashionable European examples in which the Rococo style was dominant. In this tea service with relief flowers polychrome painting stresses the natural whiteness of the porcelain: the relief decoration is finely worked and combines successfully with the gold rocaille pattern around the edges of the items. |
