Vase with a depiction of flowers and fruit

1830s

Batenin factory

Porcelain, with polychrome overglaze painting and gilding

The decorative vases produced by the Batenin factory are so distinctive that they cannot be confused with the products of other Russian enterprises: landscapes or luxuriant arrangements of flowers on a fully-gilded background that gives the bright colours of the bouquet a special resonance, while the combination of colour patches in the image are reminiscent of the works of Russian folk painters. The shape of the vases, on the contrary, displays the Classical lines of a tall-necked amphora with volute handles.
