Sculpture: Little Shepherd

1840-61

Kornilov factory

Porcelain, with polychrome overglaze painting and gilding

From the early days of the Kornilov factory its range included porcelain sculpture with fairly simple subjects. Quite often one comes across copies of popular figurines from Western European makers - flower girls, gardeners, shepherds and shepherdesses. Such statuettes were used to decorate an interior. This figurine of a shepherd in a smart outfit generously embellished with gilding is typical of the sculpture from the Kornilov factory which was marked by elaborate composition and an abundance of painted detail.
