Plaque-Medallion with a Bear's Head

Burial in the Perm Region

6th-8th century AD

H 8 cm, w 5.7 cm

This cast relief plaque is made in the form of a large bear's head in a sacrificial posture. The depiction of a bear's head and forepaws is a canonical representation in Perm art. The cult of the bear was widespread in the region around the River Kama.
