Male Figurine

Staraya Ladoga

10th century

Yew

H 27 cm

On the bearded face with its straight nose, the eyes are indicated by circles while a single straight line represents the mouth. A headdress or helmet is pulled down low over the forehead. The figure widens out into a cone shape which probably represents a pleated skirt. At the bottom of the figure is a cylindrical form, perhaps part of a leg.
