The artist executed several landscapes of his favorite place, Vernouillet. In the Hermitage picture the artist presents mythological figures, little fauns, in a merry spring landscape. Developing the Impressionist understanding of colour the artist arrives at a synthesis of light and colour which determines the pictorial structure of his work.
