Peasant Woman with her Child, 1873

Aime-Jules Dalou, c.1838-1902

Terracotta; h 125 cm

The Hermitage exhibition includes several works from different periods by Aime-Jules Dalou, a representative of the French Realist school. This large terracotta statue is one of his best works. Echoes of the Madonna and Child can be clearly seen in this realistic portrayal of a simple peasant woman suckling her child.
