Prince Varahran out Hunting

5th century

Silver, gilding Diam 28 cm

According to tradition, the Prince wears an official robe and a crown with ram's horns. On this dish he is shown fighting two wild boars. The horns on the crown were the symbol of royalty. Trying to remain firm in his saddle, he strikes at one of the boars. It should be noted that the wild boar was one of the incarnations of the god of Victory, who bore the same name as the Prince.
