Goblet in the Form of a Ship 1706 Silver, gilt 30.5 x 12 x 3.7 cm According to the inscription on the stern, this goblet was made from new-minted silver in the Nerchinsk Region, Siberia, and presented to Peter I. On the stern is a bas-relief representing a tree and two men wearing early 18th-century costume. Among the seventeen figures of riflemen, spearmen, and gunners, we can clearly pick out the captain's figure. Wine was drunk through a horn set in the mouth of a crowned lion, part of the decoration of the ship's prow. A ship, symbol of young Russia, was a favorite image in Peter's time.
