Portrait of Anna Ivanovna

Christian-Albert Wortmanns

Engraving

After an original by Louis Caravaque

Wearing a formal costume and the Order of St. Andrew, the Empress Anna Ivanovna is shown seated on the throne. The sumptuous attributes of the composition correspond to the pomposity of the Baroque style typical of Louis Caravaque's late works. A skilful engraver, Wortmann remarkably conveyed the splendour of the Empress's attire and the magnificence of the palace interior.
