Plat de Menage from "I New Service"

Ivan Liebman

1739-1740

Silver

This table decoration, known as a plat de menage, consists of a tray with eight candlesticks and a large vase decorated with relief figures of eagles, shells, and garlands of flowers and fruit. They are part of the ceremonial service commissioned by Empress Anna Ivanovna for State Chancellor Cherkassky. After the Empress's death all the pieces remained under the authority of the Court, and each of them was decorated with the monogram of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna.
