Snuff-box with a View of the Park at Tsarskoye Selo and the Chesme Column

Gold, enamel; cast, chased, painted

This snuff-box was presented to Count Alexey Orlov by Catherine II to mark his great services to Russia. The Chesme Column is painted in enamel on the upper lid of the snuff-box. This Column was erected by the architect Antonio Rinaldi in 1771 to 1778 in honour the victory of the Russian fleet during the First Turkish War at the battle at Chesme.
