Field Liturgy-Set of Alexander I St. Petersburg, Russia C. 1812 Workshop of Axel Hedlund Silver, gilt, enamel, engraving Axel Hedlund (1764-1833) worked in St. Petersburg from 1799. In 1816 he began working on numerous commissions for the royal court. These objects, including the Gospels decorated with enamel medallions showing a scene of the Resurrection and the four Evangelists and a splendid chalice decorated with enamel, formed part of a full liturgy set for the field church, which accompanied Emperor Alexander I in all his campaigns. These objects were kept and carried in a casket upholstered with red velvet. After Alexander's death the set was kept in the Winter Palace.
