Portrait of Princess Zinaida Yusupova

Francois Flameng

1856-1923

France

125.5 x 94 cm

Zinaida Yusupova (1861-1939), daughter of the Grand Master of Ceremonies of the Court and vice director of the Yusupov Public Library, married Duke Felix Sumarokov-Elston. She was very close to the court and was particularly friendly with Dowager Empress Maria Fyodorovna, mother of Nicholas II, and Alexandra Fyodorovna, his wife. In this portrait by the popular contemporary artist Francois Flameng, the princess wears a sumptuous dress decorated with the famous Peregrine Pearl, which once belonged to King Philip II of Spain.
