Specimen of the Soviet Union Rouble

1924

Silver diameter 33 mm, weight 19.98 g

This silver rouble of 1924 belongs to the the new type of coin struck after the formation of the Soviet Union in December 1923. The obverse shows the state arms and the denomination: [trans.] One rouble.. The reverse shows a worker and a peasant set against a rising sun, symbolizing the union of town and countryside in the light of the Soviet state's New Economic Policy. The new coins first appeared in circulation in February 1924.
