Desk seal of the first quarter of the 19th century with the monogram
A beneath an imperial crown
First quarter of the 19th century
Russia
Carnelian, gold, bronze and glass. Height 73 mm
The desk seal has a matrix engraved in cornelian in the form of the monogram
A beneath an imperial crown. The handle is made from pinkish opal glass
that was produced in private factories in the 1820s and 1830s. Very few
articles made of such glass have survived. They are usually small in size
and combined with well wrought gilded bronze and sometimes attached to
malachite bases.
