The Hermitage for the first time shows in the Himmerod Abbey Museum 35 exhibits; 8 objects are loaned by the Baron Stieglitz Museum. West European enamel is represented by mediaeval creations, along with a few examples of Renaissance style. Tea set, caddy and casket executed by enamel masters of Augsburg date from the 17th century. Russian enamel art of the 17th century is represented by creations coming from the Moscow Kremlins workshops chalice, paten and icon. Alongside them are works of Russian and West European masters of the 18th century. The St. Petersburg period of enamel collecting is represented by a few snuffboxes with portraits of members of the Imperial Family. Traditions of collecting were carried on during the 19th century. The exhibition shows works executed in the characteristic style of this age, including Faberge products. The Hermitage continues to collect and exhibit works created in the end of the 20th century. |
