Hospital ward in the Nicholas Hall of the Winter Palace

October 1915

Photographer I. Otsup

The photo was published in the journal War Chronicle 1914-1915 (1915), which also published a short commentary on the Field Hospital in the Winter Palace.

"Thus the Nicholas Hall accommodated 200 cots, which were placed in straight lines in 3 rows perpendicular to the Neva. Here there were those wounded with head injuries (scull, eyes, ears, jaws); also those wounded in the throat and thorax. There were also soldiers who were seriously ill (vertebral column). " Excerpt from the Memoirs of N.V. Galanina.
