Boris Piotrovsky The exhibition is timed to the hundredth anniversary of Boris Piotrovsky (1908 - 1990) who occupied the post of Director of the State Hermitage Museum from 1964 to 1990. It features archive materials on Boris Piotrovsky’s life and professional career: his autobiography and service record documents, logbooks and drawings, poems and photos, awards and works (monographs, exhibition catalogues, articles and publications written or edited by him). B.B. Piotrovsky was the founder of a new branch of historic science - urartology. The excavation of ancient Urartu fortresses performed by him in Armenia and his treatises on the findings formed a basis for systematic scientific study of the Urartu kingdom culture and art which came to replace the previously dominant casual finding interpretation approach. |
