We draw and paint in the Hermitage 26 December 2009 the exhibition of children’s drawings created by the students of the School Centre’s Art Studio was opened. It is called We Draw in the Hermitage. By tradition the exhibition is organized in the Foyer of the Hermitage Theatre and is accompanied by New Year’s dramatized dress performance on stage of the Imperial theatre with participation of the pupils of the studio. Colourful procession of children dressed in masquerades marched ceremonially through the rooms of the museum. Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky opened the exhibition in the Foyer of the Hermitage Theatre. Then children and guests proceeded to the Hermitage Theatre. Artists and audience took their places in order to watch the performance about fairytale heroes, about antique mythology, about articles of decorative and applied art, about painting, about history of the Hermitage, about the Malachite room and about many other things that are stored in our museum Preparations to the festive performance take two months and children and their parents take part in it. Together they choose a hero for the performance, create costumes and write texts. The subject of the play is closely connected to what children have been studying in the course of the year during their classes at the museum. The youngest pupils of the Art Studio traditionally dress up as fairytale characters and this is the most touching part of the performance. A bit older children are offered subjects related to exhibitions of the Hermitage, with art genres, museum history and its collections. Traditionally the festival is organized at the Hermitage Theatre where children invite their parents, grandparents, friends and acquaintances, who support small actors on that famous stage. |
