Meissen Porcelain of the 1900s - 1930s from the Collection
of the House of Art (Haus der Kunst), Remshalden-Grünbach
13 February 2009 - 24 May 2009
The Blue Bedroom of the Winter Palace
(Room 307)
The exhibition both demonstrates the production of the famous and oldest
in Europe Meissen porcelain factory and conveys the atmosphere of the artistic
life of Germany before and after WWI. The spirit of the pre-war
Germany that succumbed to the grandeur of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes which
gave performances not only in Paris but also in Berlin is manifested in the Russian
Ballet series of figures made in 1913 after the models of Paul
Scheurich. The art of Germany between the two world wars is represented
by the works of Gerhard Marcks, Max Esser, Paul Bërener and others. One hundred
and fifteen art pieces shown at the exhibition trace transition
from the Jugednstil (German version of Art Nouveau) to Art Deco, an important
stage in the history of European art.
