Educational program for the exhibition Antony Gormley. Still Standing. Intervention in the Classical Collections


Special classes/discussions are given for visitors at the Antony Gormley exhibition in the Hermitage. They are given by Hermitage research assistants and tickets are on sale at the museum on the day of the class. Excursions are offered on two themes:

1. "Domain Field", Antony Gormley in the space of classical art
Classes are given by staff from the science-education department.
Saturdays at 13:00.

2. Standing in Silence - meeting with Lyudmila Ivanovna Davydova, curator for Roman sculpture of the Antiquities Department.
Sundays at 13:00.

Meetings with Antony Gormley


On 23 September, a meeting was held in the halls of antique art (Dionysus Hall and Roman Courtyard) with Antony Gormley, where the sculptor answered questions on the exhibition from the public.
On 24 September, in the Hermitage Theatre, Antony Gormley gave a lecture "The body in time and space: An examination of life in sculpture".

 

Discussion "Sculpture in and out of the museum"


On 22 September, in the Council Hall of the State Hermitage, a discussion was held "Sculpture in and out of the museum" with museum employees, art historians, artists, critics and Antony Gormley himself. The following topics were discussed:

  • Classical sculpture in the museum without plinths.
  • Feature of sculpture space in the museum. Exhibition principles.
  • Classical art - museum antiquity?
  • Modern sculpture - new ideas?
  • The role of sculpture in a modern urban environment.
  • The place for classical traditions in current art.
 

Educational program for the exhibition Antony Gormley. Still Standing. Intervention in the Classical Collections


On 14 September, as part of the educational program for the exhibition Antony Gormley. Still Standing: A Contemporary Intervention in the Classical Collections, a meeting took place between students and exhibition curator A.A. Trofimova. Anna Trofimova talked about the main concept, details of organising this exhibition, gave her impressions of working with Antony Gormley and answered all questions.
