Dushin An exhibition of works from collection of Grigory Diomidovich Dushin (1905 - 1990), Leningrad actor and collector, opened in Menshikov Palace. This collection was delivered to the Hermitage in 1993 as a gift to the Department of History of Russian Culture and numbers 295 exhibits. They are paintings, drawings, and sculptures; icons, samples of arts and crafts (furniture, goods of stone, porcelain, and glass), as well as documents and photographs. Mr. Dushin's collection includes quite a number of rare and valuable exhibits. Thus, among paintings one would find works of such famous Russian painters as Ivan Nikitin, Mina Kolokolnikov, K.E. Makovsky, etc. Works from Mr. Dushin's collection are basically portraits, reflecting in the first place certain historical epoch and type of people. Such prominent historical figures as Peter III, Paul I, Anna Ioannovna, Elizaveta Petrovna, Catherine II are there, as well as portraits of military and civil representatives of Russian society of 18-19th centuries, and portraits of the collector himself, his mother, wife, and relatives. Mr. Dushin's collection includes 62 etchings mainly of Russian artists, and some works of applied art and sculptures. Among minor sculptures, one would note a small bas-relief of carved ivory with portraits of Emperor Paul I and Empress Maria Fedorovna, which was allegedly made Empress herself. Among documents, charter of 1787 with authentic signature of Catherine II and I.I.Shuvalov and Charter concerning the Right of Export of Goods from Belgorod (via Danube) to Turkish Black Sea Ports granted to a Bulgarian merchant and certified by seal of Turkish Sultan (1880s) are of special interest. Works of K. Bargamasko, S.Y. Levitsky, Y. Mebius, E. Vestly, V. Karruk, prominent St. Petersburg and Moscow photographers, are also exhibited at the exhibition. |
