Netsuke
June 1998 - ongoing
This exhibition was dedicated to the Russian scholar Michael Uspensky,
curator of the Hermitage collection of Japanese works of art, who died
at an early age in 1998.
The Hermitage collection of netsuke is the largest of its kind in Russia.
Formed on the basis of the Baron Stieglitz collection and transferred
to the Hermitage in 1926, it has been regularly augmented by purchases
and bequests from private individuals.
