2007: The Opening of the Hermitage-Italy Centre in Ferrara
20 October 2007, in Ferrara in the Castle Estense in the presence of President
of Italy Giorgio Napolitano the solemn ceremony of opening of the Hermitage-Italy
Centre, located in the castle itself and in Palazzino Giglioli was held.
This Centre's activities will be primarily dedicated to scientific study
of its collection and Russian-Italian cultural connections. The Hermitage-Italy
Centre is financed by the city and businessmen of Ferrara. The Centre
has two Directors: Italian and Russian and the Scientific Committee including
Russian, Italian and Spanish scientists. The Hermitage-Italy Centre coordinates
wide activity of the Hermitage in Italy.
The creation of this Centre reflects the new focal points of the State
Hermitage Museum's foreign policy; along with remaining active in terms
of creating new exhibitions, particular attention and financial resources
will be dedicated to activating the scholarly research that is the foundation
of the Hermitage's reputation of as world museum.
