"Considerable work needed to be done in the halls designated to
open: restoring the heating system, installing a large number of panes
in the windows, putting the floors in order as well as 24 badly damaged
chandeliers from the Armorial Hall, to hang them in place and, finally,
to polish the floor. All that was to be done by the Hermitage staff
that by the time of the exhibition numbered only 130 people."
