Cupid with an Arrow
Mikhail I. Kozlovsky
1797
Marble
The Russian Museum
The statue of Cupid with an Arrow by Mikhail
Kozlovsky, one of the most striking exponents of the early Classical
style in Russia, is among the celebrated works that the sculptor
repeated more than once. At the present time there are two signed
statues that can be found in the collections of the Russian Museum
in St Petersburg and the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. It would seem
that this figure was previously in the Taurida Palace (Potiomkin's
residence in St Petersburg) and it is included in the list of works
that Alexander Briullov selected there for the New Hermitage as
"A Standing Cupid by Kozlovsky".
