Statue of an Egyptian priest
Late 18th - early 19th century
Italy
Marble
The two marble statues of Egyptian priests forming an unusual "guard of honour" at the foot of the Main Staircase in the New Hermitage are a striking example of the stylized imitation of Egyptian monuments that came into vogue around the turn of the 19th century under the influence of Napoleons Egyptian campaign.
