Our beautiful city was founded by Peter the Great.
Three hundred years ago this tsar chose a location on the banks of the Neva to build a fortress, with the goal of preventing enemies from invading Russia. But first, soldiers built a house for Peter the Great. It still can be found on one of the banks of the Neva, and it is preserved as a historical monument. It is called The House of Peter I. This was the very first building of the would-be capital of the Russian Empire.
