The Arts from A to Z
The task of The Arts from A to Z program is cultivating a system of goal-oriented guidelines among participants for the study of the fines arts in condensed time periods. The basis of every task is developing conscious visual perception of works of art. Mastering the algorithm for "reading a work" on the basis of its formal features ("formal analysis" in the terminology o classical art theory) helps the authors to orient themselves in terms of the styles and the millennia long history of art. On March 2nd, Irina Radikovna Bagdasarova, scientific associate, custodian of Russian porcelain, met with senior students from Petersburg schools in the Antechamber at the Ancient Fashion exhibit of Russian Imperial Porcelain from the second half of the 18th century from the Christmas Gift cycle, of which she is the curator. more

The Museum and Museum Workers Celebration in the General Staff Building
On February 1st, the Youth Centre hosted the opening of a unique new educational program, Museum and Museum Workers, initiated at the department of Museum Work and Landmark Preservation of the Philosophy Department of Saint Petersburg State University and approved by M.B. Piotrovsky, who is not only the director of the State Hermitage Museum, but also the head of the department. The program is intended for 9th-11th year school students. It's main goal is to interest school graduates in the profession of a museum worker and show them what a contemporary museum is, how it works and what its employees do. more
