Program for scholarly and cultural-educational
activities
The State Hermitage-University 8 (Paris, St. Deni)
Project authors and supervisors: L. Torshina
and S. Kudryavtseva
The joint program of anniversary activities is dedicated to one of the
highly important aspects of the history of culture of St. Petersburg as
the capital city: the role of European cultural traditions and their influence
in the formation of everyday life, the daily life of the court, ceremonials
and artistic tastes of the Russian Imperial Court, as well as aristocracy
and intellectual elite of St. Petersburg. The concept of the program foresees
its implementation through the joint efforts of the Hermitage and Paris
University 8 (St. Deni). Other partnerships are envisioned, as well. The
program includes two sections: scholarly and cultural-educational.
Specialists-historians and art critics from centers of scholarship and
the museums of St. Petersburg-are invited to participate in the scholarly
activities. The following organizations are scheduled to participate in
the program from the French side: the Louvre Museum, the Museum of Versailles,
the French National Library, the French National Archives, the Students'
Television Federation, and the National Institute for Audio-Visual Culture.
The cultural-educational programs are intended primarily for students
and faculty members of universities of St. Petersburg and Paris. The aim
of these programs is not limited to providing broad information about
Russian-French and Russian-European cultural ties and their interaction
and role in the history of the Emperor's Residence and the Russian capital.
It also intends to acquaint the young people of Paris and St. Petersburg
with each other, and to foster their further contact on the basis of mutual
cultural interests. The Hermitage Student Club will no doubt take an active
part in the cultural-education section of the program.
