This is one of the grand halls of the New Hermitage constructed in the mid-19th century to the design of Leo von Klenze for the purpose of displaying the collection of cameos. The interior decoration of this room is based on the devices and motifs of Renaissance art. The hall features the collection of Italian art of the 15th and 16th centuries. The gems of the collection are paintings by Raphael (1483-1520) - The Conestabile Madonna and The Holy Family. The impressive sculptural group Dead Boy on a Dolphin is attributed to Raphael's disciple Lorenzo Lorenzetti (1490-1541). The cartoon Procession with Bulls and Elephants for a tapestry in the series devoted to the Roman general Scipio Africanus is a work by the famous master of the Roman school Giulio Romano (1499-1526), also a pupil of Raphael. Represented in the room are also majolica articles executed by masters from different Italian towns, Venetian cassoni (bridal chests) decorated with carvings and a cassapanca, a chest with a wooden back and cover in the form of a seat.
