The White Hall was designed by Alexander .Briullov for the wedding
of the future Emperor Alexander II in 1841. The white colour scheme
of the hall is enhanced by the rich sculptural decor: the ceiling
and pilasters are covered with stucco mouldings, the frieze is decorated
with figures of playing putti. In the central part of the hall,
over the mouldeddesigns representing armory, there are bas-reliefs
depicting figures of ancient Roman gods. The columns with magnificent
Corinthian capitals are surmounted with figures personifying the
arts. The paintings by the 18th-century French artist of Huber Robert
are in perfect harmony with the interior. The hall houses an exhibition
of unique furniture produced by David Roentgen, a famous cabint-maker
of the age of Classicism.
