This room is the former study in the apartments of the future Emperor Alexander II designed by Alexander Briullov after the fire of 1837. The exhibition in the room features decorative works dating from the late 18th century. The throne of Emperor Paul I, the standard lamps, the chandeliers, the stools and the bishop's arm-chair originate from the Maltese Chapel (Giacomo Quarenghi, 1798-1800). The tapestries Hector Reproaching Paris, Triumph of Cupid and Aurora were made at the St Petersburg Tapestry Factory in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Of particular interest are items from the dinner services for receptions in the Winter Palace in honour of the Knights of the four highest orders in Russia - St.George, St Alexander Nevsky, St Andrew the First-Called and St Vladimir. The exhibition also includes articles produced at the Imperial Porcelain Factory, St Petersburg Glassworks, Peterhof and Kolyvan Lapidary Works.
