This room is situated in the part of the Winter Palace
previously occupied by of the ladies-in-waiting. The exhibition features
works by Henri Matisse, a leader of the European Avant-Garde, a representative
of "Fauvism" - the earliest trend in 20th-century art. Worthy of special
mention among the nine pictures on display are The Red Room (1908),
The Dance and Music (both 1910) commissioned by Sergei Shchukin, a
well-known Russian patron of arts, for his mansion in Moscow.. Also
shown in this room are several bronze sculptures created by Matisse.
