The room is situated in the part of the Winter Palace
formerly taken by the apartments of the ladies-in-waiting. The display
features Picasso's canvases dating from 1901-08, the early phase of
his career. Among them are The Absinth Drinker (1901), one of his
earliest paintings, as well as three works from the so-called "Blue
Period" - Two Sisters (The Visit) (1902), Portrait of Soler (1903)
and Head of a Woman (Portrait of Genevieve) (1902/03). Cubism, one
of the most audacious and brilliant trends in the European Avant-Garde
of the early 20th century, is represented by a great variety of works
by Picasso, who largely contributed to its creation. One can enjoy
his famous canvases such as The Dance of the Veils (1907), Three Women
(1908), Woman with a Fan (1908) and Dryad (1908). |
