This room occupies the part of the second floor of the Winter Palace where the flats of the attending staff were originally situated. The exhibition features works of Chinese art of the Ch'ing dynasty (1644 to 1911) including decorative objects produced in the technique of cloisonne enamel, the best examples from the Hermitage's extensive collection of Chinese carved stones as well as paintings in ink on paper and silk. Of particular interest are the 12-folding lacquer screen dating from the 17th century, nephrite items and the scroll Landscape on a Lake executed in ink on silk by Ts'ao K'ui-yin, with a poem by the famous 9th-century Chinese poet Po Chu-i.
