The decoration of this reception room that formed part
of the apartments of the Prince’s wife, Daria Mikhailovna, had
been lost. It was recreated in the 1990s on the basis of historical
documents. The display is rich in items of decorative and applied
art including 17th– and 18th–century silver and earthenware
from Western Europe. The walls are hung with four French Aubusson
tapestries (late 17th – early 18th century) - Spring, Autumn,
Winter and A Boy Cutting Dry Branches. Of especial interest
here is the Chinese and Japanese porcelain from the late 17th century
and the first quarter of the 18th - a tribute to Europeans’
fascination with the art of the Orient. The walls are decorated with
Chinese plates painted in the range of colours called famille verte
due to the predominance of green, while stands bear vases and statuettes
of Japanese Imari porcelain with its rich combination of blue with
red and gold. |
