Of the original rich decor of this room in which the secretaries worked only the ceiling has survived. It is decorated with moulded joists and eight stucco medallions bearing depictions of the ancient goddesses Demeter and Themis. The furnishing of the room accords with its function. On the open flap of a carved walnut writing-desk (Northern Italy, 16th - first half of the 17th century) we can see a copper inkwell with enamel ornament (Moscow, late 17th century). A little cabinet standing on the table is of the same style and period as the writing-desk. Here too is an armillary sphere (England, early 18th century) that came from the Kunstkammer. On the cabinet is a gunner's quadrant with a sighting tube from the early 18th century that comes from the Study of Peter the Great.
